Jamala Wildlife Lodge and National Zoo & Aquarium ROAR into first place at the Canberra Tourism Awards!

The National Zoo and Aquarium and Jamala Wildlife Lodge won an unprecedented three major awards between them, plus a people’s choice award, at the Canberra Tourism Awards on Friday night.

The zoo won the award for Major Tourist Attraction. “This is a huge achievement, as Canberra has some of Australia’s best tourist attractions, many of which are world rated” the Executive Manager of the zoo, Russell Jackson said.

“The award is a reflection of the animals, the staff and the contribution we make to conservation, education and recreation” he added. The zoo also won the People’s Choice Award for the Favourite Family-Friendly Entertainment subcategory.

Jamala Wildlife Lodge, located in the zoo grounds, won both the Unique Accommodation Award, as well as the award for Tourism Restaurants and Catering Services. “It is great to have won both of these awards, as the feedback that we receive from guests is nearly always that the experience of staying at Jamala is unrivalled and that the cuisine that we offer is amongst the best that they have had” said the General Manager, Amanda Mead.

Guests at Jamala have a choice of having cheetahs, tigers, lions, sun bears, meerkats, monkeys, hyenas or fish as their neighbours, or getting the opportunity to interact with some of those animals.
